Filter marketing leans hard on numbers that sound official and are not. These are the ones that mean something:
- NSF/ANSI 401. The standard covering incidental contaminants, and the one under which microplastic reduction in the 0.5 to 1 micron range is verified. This is what to look for on any microplastics claim. It does not cover nanoplastics.
- NSF/ANSI 58. Reverse osmosis system performance.
